Now you have to still tune you bowfishing bow correctly from the start to hit your targets when out on the hunt. I still use the primitive method of instinctive shooting point and shoot). What works for some, does not work for all types and styles of shooting,

How to install BOWFISHING LIGHTS so they will last!

I just spent the better part of the past weekend re-installing my high pressure sodium bowfishing lights. I wish I would of known that the smaller light brackets suck. I have broken a few of the bowfishing light brackets over the past couple of years and came up with a solution to not use the light brackets at all.

This is a picture of the final product. It also gave me more driving visibility by moving the front bowfishing lights further to the outside. Now I can see under the deck better to drive while everyone is on the shooting deck.

From Pole Fishing to Bowfishing (The start of the bowfishing hunt)

Throughout my time off shore working in the Gulf Of Mexico fishing has always been a release. Weather it's Amber jack, Red Snapper, Grouper or Tuna. Just the peaceful afternoons spent out on the deck fishing for a meal that the whole dive crew could enjoy was reward enough.

Recently a friend of mine took me on a nigh time adventure to try bow fishing. Now just to get the story straight I never shot a bow in my life. WOW it was the next level of fishing. Exciting beyond all belief. Not to say that I'm a good shot but it still took us awhile to limit out on red fish. My two sons amped up from the thrill of the hunt was priceless. Smile from ear to ear. Oh, and the comments they make like 'When can we go again. Darn, we already have our limit.' So as a family man you can see that being outside and away from all the Nintendo is the best experience to offer your family. Time spent together having fun. Using what you already have will also save you money in the long run. You don't need two boats to maintain anyway!

The only boat in the family is the brother-in-laws. It's no surface drive or air boat. Having to lean over the engine about every five minutes to clean out the water intake can be a tiresome and daunting task. All is not lost. Time well spent with your family. Grab About ten 300 watt to 500 watt halogen lights, four 2"x4"'s, half a dozen 'C' clamps, wire end connectors and a generator. One good afternoon spent building your night bow fishing rig. First you have to fit the 2"x4"'s around the perimeter of the front of your vessel and secure them together with wood screws. Be sure that the wood screws are short enough to not damage your boat. Mount your lights so they can be adjusted. Wire them together in a custom fashion to split the cir cut into two sections. About four to five on each circut. This is to not overload your circuts on the generator. Test lights for position in the dark of night before you go. Secure the light bracket with 'C' clamps to the rails.
Ready to go! Miltie purpose fishing/bow fishing vessel! You'll be lighting up the banks like New York's Time Square!

My Bowfishing Boat or Cajun Playpen?

First off it is a bowfishing boat. When it is loaded out there would be two more high pressure sodium lights installed about mid-ship on elevated poles to have max visibility with bowfishing lights. Two ice chest for bowfishing. One for snacks and one for the catch of the day. Two small bowfishing generators. Four bowfishing bows.

At this moment-

Today it was collecting dust so I put my bowfishing boat to use as an outside playpen for my son.

Fishing With Grandpa

When time has passed us by so quickly you begin to remember all the good times we spent as a child. One of my fondest memories is going fishing with my Grandfather. Grandpa wasn't much of a talker unless he had a few beers in him to loosen up a little.

We would start are morning around 5AM. (and now that I bowfish we start around 5pm LAZY DAYS) Grandma would prepare us a large breakfast of eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast. Every fishing trip needs a hearty meal before departing the house. As this was done on every fishing trip.

We would drive to my great Grandmothers house about thirty minutes away and load up the boat with are tackle and fishing poles. Then drive about another twenty minutes to are favorite fishing lake. Now that I'm older I guess it was are favorite fishing lake since it was close to home.

Grandpa was busy driving the boat at the same time making sure I was tying my fishing hook and swivel properly as I was shown by him before. I think the smile on his face was the approval that I needed to continue my task of getting ready for the day. As I've mentioned earlier Grandpa wasn't much of a talker, but his body language spoke load and clear.

Baiting are hooks with a simple night crawler we started fishing.  By mid morning we had about ten or so trout on the fishing stringer. Grandpa reached in the ice chest and grabbed a cold beer for himself and a ice cold coke for me. I was to busy getting my monster fourteen inch brook trout off of my fishing hook. Now I know it is not a trophy fish but when your six years old it sure felt like it back then. After my fish was on the stringer tied to the back of the boat I got my cold soda as a reward for the fight that I had just won. Looking back on that one fishing memory it wasn't the cold soda that was my reward but the smile that Grandpa gave me in my success as a fellow fisherman.

This story made my Grandfather not so shy when he was around his neighbors. He always looked at me proud when he told are story of the biggest fish of the day. Mind you it was caught by his little fishing buddy. The approval from Grandpa lives with me when I pass that same smile to my children when I take them fishing down the local bayou. Sharing everything that I learned from Grandpa with my own children.

I'll be busy bowfishing with my grandchildren instead!
More action and always on the move.

Bowfishing Retrievers

Three basic types of reels are commonly used in bowfishing: Hand-wrap, spin-cast, and retriever. The AMS Retreiver Pro 600 Series Bowfishing Reel offers a lot of new technology to this ancient old form of archery fishing on the water.

Bowfishing Rest

Bow rest that are tried, tested and proven performers in the bowfishing industry and out in field. If you look very closely at are bows we use the AMS Wave Rest on the two Genesis bows and on the PSE Barracuda bows my son and I both upgraded to the Trophy Ridge Bowfishing Whisker Biscuit.

Bowfishing Bows

Bowfishing bows reflect the style of bowfishing person you are and what you represent while out on the water bowfishing. Two basic types of bows are the compound and recurve bows.

From shallow water carp shoots to monsters of the deep, the Barracuda is up to the challenge. The new PSE Barracuda is the ultimate in form and function.

Bowfishing Lights

Bowfishing lights are very important to your fishing trip. Bowfishing lights will seem to penetrate the water further then the sun at night because of the contrast (light VS. dark). Bowfishing lights at night allow you to see further through the water to catch a glimpse of fish at greater depths.

Bowfishing Lights - High Pressure Sodium
1. More lumens (more light)
2. Lower wattage (less power drain while using your generators)
3. Natural light color (almost in the orange/yellow spectrum, less reflective)
4. Longer bulb life
